There’s something very special about antique furniture. It’s something to do with its history, the people who have used this table, this desk, before you. What is an antique console table?

An antique console table is a console table that is more than 100 years old. Console tables are stylish statement pieces. They’re often highly decorative and used for display purposes. They were first made in France in the 1600s. Then, they were rectangular slabs which were supported by brackets mounted to the wall. Now, they come in all sorts of different shapes, including rectangles and squares, but demi-lune console tables (which is just a fancy way of saying ‘half-moon’, or semi-circular) are another popular, and very elegant, option. Console tables are usually between 30-36 inches tall, and are wider than they are deep. Their shallow tops make them perfect for showing off items and adding a little decoration to those narrow spaces you’ve never been sure how to customise.

Styling an antique console table

Our antique console tables can be used to liven up those hard to decorate areas like dens or entryways, where you have a more limited space to work with. Our top tip is to layer things up and give your display a bit of height using candle holders and/or table lamps. Station a pair symmetrically at either end of the long table to give an impression of even greater width as well.
